My "one day" apartment.

So, I am starting to believe that you can have it altogether, without necessarily having it together.
Since I’ve graduated high school, I have constantly been saying "I am going to move out." "I need to move out. " "Next year, I am moving out." Well, it's now been seven years since I’ve graduated and I still live at home. In my defense, I was not your typical high school graduate whom as soon as he/she graduated went away to college. I have never known anything other than living at home with my family. It's not that I chose to go down this path; I am not really sure how I even ended up in this situation. It could have been my parents, my heritage, or my laziness of not wanting to have to pay any more bills. WHO KNOWS? Whatever it was that led me to where I am today, I'm glad it did.
It's funny because some days I still wake up and I ask myself, what am I doing? I should be living on my own. I am 25 years old and still at home with my mom. I am a LOSER. I am moving out next month. THAT’S IT! Then of course, almost immediately after this revelation, I begin purchasing things for this place that I don’t even have. Because, well you know, I’m going to finally move out.
People have asked me, “Annette, instead of buying things for a home that you don't have yet, why don’t you save your money?” Into which I love to reply, “I am saving my money, but I’m also splurging on my future.” What I mean by that is, instead of indulging in clothing, makeup, and accessories sometimes I want to go on a shopping spree for nice house hold items. Realistically, I am saving myself from possible debt, moving into an unfurnished apartment or home, and the stress of having to buy everything at one time. I mean I can basically hear myself complaining to my boyfriend that we don’t have enough glasses for everyone to drink out of, or a blender, or we need a chair in that corner of the room. I might as well avoid the stress and be prepared by owning most things beforehand, right?
So, this is what has brought me to my current thought. No, I don’t live on my own. No, I don't have it all together, but I am on my way to one day living on my own. I am on my way to one day having it altogether. I believe that that thought itself is proof that I actually do have it together. Acknowledging it and beginning to do something about it is the first step, even if all I am physically doing is purchasing items for the day that I do decide to move out.
