Hello everyone. I hope the winter cold isn’t freezing you up, or drying you out too badly! I feel like recently I have been doing a lot of installments on skincare. The reason being that I feel skincare is really the most important thing you can do for beauty. See makeup only looks as good as your skin looks. Any good makeup artist will tell you that they can color correct and make you look as fabulous as possible with makeup, but one thing they cannot correct is texture. If your skin is flaking because it’s dry, or if you're breaking out and have bumps all over your face, your makeup may initially look great but give it time and I promise it wont look as amazing in a few hours, or get in some bad lighting and you’ll see exactly what I am talking about.

I want for people to really start taking care of their skin. Having suffered (and still occasionally suffer) with extremely sensitive acne prone skin since I hit puberty, I understand that the struggle is real. Skin care is what is going to give you the tools to that flawless, “I woke up like this” look.

So, I figured I would do some “at home remedies” that I have personally tried, and feel that really work, and will hopefully help some of you.

I want to start off with the most important and easy to do at home remedy I know. Water…. People, stay hydrated. You will immediately feel and see a difference if you intake the proper amount of water per day. Now I am not talking about drinking more beverages, I am talking about clean and pure H2O. Health authorities say that everyone should drink about 8-8 ounce glasses of water per day. That is about 2 liters, or half a gallon. I know it seems like a lot, and you will definitely want to be around a toilet at all times, but I promise, you wont drown, and you will see a difference in your skin. It’s worth the annoyance, and side note, it helps with weight loss… (**Wink-Wink**)

I have a very good friend of mine who introduced me to an at-home face mask that gives your skin a boost of a-maz-ing-ness. My friend is from the UK, but her family is from Pakistan. I had complained to her about my skin and said that I was experiencing some dullness and breakouts and she told me that there is a mask that brides in India and Pakistan do before their weddings to get healthy, flawless, glowing skin. So the base of the mask is Turmeric. This spice is known for its healing powers. So the recipe is as follows:

-1/4 cup Ground Blanched Almonds

-Rose Water

-1 tbsp Turmeric

-Gram Flour (Besan)

You're going to mix all of these ingredients together until they give you the consistency of peanut butter. Then put the mask on your freshly cleaned skin. Allow the mask to dry, then gently rub the mask on your skin with your finger tips, and the almonds will scrub your skin of impurities. Finally rinse the mask off. I like to use a clean flannel/wash cloth. Then follow up with your toner, serums, oils, moisturizers, etc.

Another wonderful natural moisturizer is olive oil, preferably a high-quality, organic, Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The reason being you want for the olive oil to be as clean and pure as possible. So when your skin is dehydrated and needs that extra boost of moisture, take a bit of this all natural oil and apply to clean dry skin. A little goes a long way. It’s also great for your hair and nails (hydrates your cuticles).

Coconut Oil. Say no more. This has become so popular recently it is mind blowing. Coconut oil has so many uses, starting with being delicious to cook with. This is a great makeup remover, cleanser, moisturizer, hair mask, hair conditioner, all over moisturizer… really what can coconut oil not do…?? Again, as I said with the olive oil, go for a high-quality, organic, 100% pure coconut oil. There will be a difference. But I highly recommend this to everyone! Especially for the hair mask.

I also saw a recipe on the “Kitchen” on food network with Bobbi Brown, that I recently tried and love for a scrub which includes some ingredients aforementioned. Heres the recipe:

-Honey

-Brown Sugar

-Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Mix all ingredients together and use wherever you need a bit of exfoliation and hydration. Rinse off with warm water and follow up with your skin care. Bobbi Brown also mentioned that is great for exfoliating the legs after shaving as it doesn't have salt which can irritate the skin.

Another mask which Bobbi Brown made on the show, and I recently tried and enjoyed is with:

-Plain Yogurt

-Honey

-Whole Oats

Mix these together and apply to skin until mask dries, then rub in, the oats will act as an exfoliator, and the yogurt has lactic acid which helps with anti-aging.

Honey is also amazing to use on its own as a mask. If you get raw organic honey and just use a bit to put all over your clean skin, leave it on for a few minutes, and rinse off. It gives you supple glowing skin. It is also said to help with breakouts as honey has antiseptic qualities.

Well, that concludes this installment. I will recommend as I mentioned in most of these home remedies, try to get high-quality, organic products. It will be a bit pricier, but you will see a big difference. I hope everyone has enjoyed this post, and find these recipes and home remedies useful!
