Makeup Options for Problem Prone Skin

Lately I've been dabbling back and forth between different brands of primers, foundations, concealers, powders, blushes, bronzers, and highlighters trying to find the perfect suitors for my skin. I have extremely sensitive, acne-prone skin and have had issues since a very young age finding skin care and cosmetic products that will be compatible with my skin-type. This is not a fun process for me because most of the time products will not be compatible, and will cause me to break out. Some worse than others. Then I have to allow my skin to heal and get back to a tolerable state before I can move onto the next product. The struggle is real people!

With that said, back in my early highschool years, I would use only Chanel products. Chanel cosmetics, much like their fashion, are not in-expensive by any means. However, their products are quite nice, and superb in comparrison to other high-end alternatives. I wore Chanel cosmetics throughout highschool and into my first year of college. However, I had a severe allergic reaction on my eyelids to one of their products and stopped using everything all-together. I then switched over to Prescriptives cosmetics.

Prescriptives and Clinique are both Estee Lauders' hypoallergenic lines for people with issue prone skin. Prescriptives was a very nice line. A little on the pricey side in comparison to its sister line Clinique, but their products were good, and didn't really give me any issues. They had a great moisturizer that I was obsessed with and would go through quite quickly. I later realized I was finishing the product so quickly because it was a gel formulation that wasn't really hydrating my skin. So, I would have to use way too much to actually see a hydrating result. As years passed the brand fell off-the-grid, and now the only way to purchase from the brand is online. I then switched over to Clinique.

Clinique, as I mentioned previously, is also owned by Estee Lauder. It is known to be an issue prone skin, high/middle-end, skin care and cosmetics line, at an affordable price point. I wore clinique for quite sometime. I had my go-around with quite of few of their products, and would try almost anything new they would come out with. My favorite foundation was their Acne Solutions Liquid Makeup. I would try their other lines of liquid foundations and would always come back to this one, since it was the only one that would not break my skin out. However, the pigmentation did turn a bit orange on my skin, and when first applied (before the oxidation process), it wasn't a "perfect" match, but I would make it work by mixing two of the colors. I grew tired of Clinique and didn't feel that their product was as good as all of the hype.

I then tried one of Sephora's Exclusive Brands, Makeup Forever HD foundation. The issue I had with this was how liquidy the formula was. Having acne prone skin most of my life I have some scarring and red spots on my face. Having to build a super liquified foundation on my face can be a very time-consuming task. One that I was not willing to do. So there goes that option. I honestly didn't wear it long enough to see if my skin had an adverse effect. Too much work for an "ok" result.

I then began working at Macy's for Benefit Cosmetics in the Impulse section. Getting to work with Benefit, and so many other lines of cosmetics and skincare, allows me to really try a bit of everything, and get input from professionals and collegues who have now become friends. I've tried almost all the brands, but my favorites are Benefit and Tarte. Both I feel are comparable in product as well as price. Tarte's Amazonian Clay foundation is very thick, almost a whipped consistency. It can be a bit drying and a bit heavy but had great coverage, great for oily skin, and a wide range of colors to choose from. Benefits foundation is quite nice as well. Many people do not know that Benefit is owned by Louis Vuitton. Most people know that Louis Vuitton isn't going to back anything that isn't high-quality. Their foundation has buildable converage and a great consistancy. My only critique is that it has a very yellow pigmentation, which for me isn't an issue, but for someone with pink undertones it is quite the issue. Both are great foundations, however.. I wear primers. I have tried several different ones, and it seems my face eats everything. By the end of the day my makeup has seperated and been sucked up by my skin. So my search for a wearable makeup products for my face continued...

Well here I am 11 years later, full circle. My confession is... I have been wearing Chanel again, and might I say, I LOVE IT! I have purchased a few of their products recently and am obsessed with every single one. The fragrance in their products is wonderrful and doesn't irritate my skin.

So here is a list of all the staple products in my collection that I am currently obsessed with, and will most likely continue to obsess over:

-PRIMER: Chanel Le Blanc

-CC CREAM: Chanel CC Cream (Color: 20 Beige)

-FOUNDATION: Chanel Perfection Lumiere (Color: 20 Beige)

-CONCEALER: Chanel Correcteur Perfection (Color: 20 Beige)

-POWDER: Chanel Double Perfection Lumiere (Color: 20 Beige)

-BRONZER: Benefit Hoola

-BLUSH: Benefit Coralista -or- Bare Minerals

-HIGHLIGHTER: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector-Pressed Powder (Moonstone)

So that's it. Of course as any makeup junkie I have so many more products as back-ups or alternatives, but these are truly my staples for every day makeup. I hope this helps anyone on the market for something fabulous and new to try.
