You know those evil dimples on our thighs, butt, and stomach. Yes, I am talking about cellulite. The wonderful confliction that is created by the interaction of fat and fiber. Thank you mother nature!

Mostly women, but sometimes men, feel insecure because of this co-mingling combination. I've listened to women say that they feel "ugly" because of cellulite, which frustrates me. I don't want other women to feel insecure about something that 70 to 90 percent of us ladies have. We even avoid being seen in bathing suits and/or shorts because of it. I mean come on, really ladies!? Are we going to let cellulite win!?!?!
Here are some the main reasons people develop cellulite:
Genetics: sometimes people with polymorphisms in the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) and hypoxia-inducible factor 1A (HIF1a) genes are more likely to get it.
Hormones: estrogen, insulin, adrenaline, and noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin (hormone that stimulates lactation after childbirth) all supposedly play a role in why get it.
Diet: taking in too much fat, carbohydrates, or salt, and not enough fiber are possible reasons.
Lifestyle: if you are stressed, smoke, aren’t active, or have a desk job that you sit for long periods of time, you are more likely to get it.
Clothing: tight clothing around your butt that limits blood flow can also render the transformation of cellulite.
Finding a quick fix to get rid of cellulite is what most of us are looking for. We are all about fast and effective products. Which is why, today, I am going to be sharing with you my temporary fix.
My Coffee/Sugar Scrub:
Ingredients:
(I personally like to use new coffee grounds because it maximizes the benefits, but if you feel like that is wasting good coffee, then used coffee grounds will work as well)
The caffeine and antioxidants in the grounds will tightening and cause a stimulating effect onto the skin.
1/2 cup of Organic Raw Sugar
This will aid as an additional exfoliator on top of the grounds.
2 tbsp. of Virgin Refined Coconut Oil
Saturated Fats in the oil will make your skin look smoother.
Proteins in the oil will help repair the tissues in your skin.
1 tbsp. of Olive Oil
The Olive Oil restores moisture onto the skin.
It also aids in hydrating the skin.
1 tbsp. of Almond Oil
This aids as an anti-inflammatory.
OPTIONAL* 1 tsp. of Vanilla Extract
The extract is for just for scent (I ALWAYS add it in- it makes it smell amazing)
How to make it:
Mix the coffee and the sugar in a bowl. Add in the oils and (optional) vanilla extract. Mix it all together. Store it in an air-tight container.
How to apply it:
Make sure you are taking a hot shower so that your pores open up. Grab a small hand-full of the scrub and apply it in circular motions to the area(s) you have cellulite. Do this for about 1-2 minutes (on each area). Rinse with warm water, and when you’re done showering gently pat those areas dry. Patting the towel on your body, instead of rubbing it, will allow the oils to sink in and nourish the skin. Use this scrub for about two weeks, consistently, and you should be able to see a difference.
FYI: The scrub will make a bit of a mess and your bathtub/shower will get somewhat sticky from the oils and sugar, so keep that in mind.
Questions you may have:
Will this scrub get rid of my cellulite for good?
No, but it is a good temporary fix. If you want it to be gone forever my advice would be to try living a healthier lifestyle, eat healthy foods, and use the scrub. Try incorporating these three things into your life and you should be on your way to seeing more permanent results.
How does coffee assist in getting rid of the appearance of cellulite?
When applying the scrub, the coffee grounds will draw water out of your fat cells, almost like a diuretic to the skin. For example, when we drink a cup of java we usually have to go to the bathroom immediately, if not soon after. Studies have shown that reasons for us rushing to that bathroom after drinking coffee are possibly because of a gastro colonic response or because the caffeine promotes the release of gastrin (a hormone produced within the stomach that increases motor activity in the colon). For the scrub, the coffee draws water out of our fat cells making the cellulite look smaller in appearance. It also expands our blood vessels, which temporarily tones and tightens our tissue.
