It's all about nails...

Lets talk about my slight obsession with nail polish. First, let's rewind back several years... Like many people in the world, I was a "nail biter". I used to chew on my finger nails until my fingers would hurt. It's a terrible habit, and I am not proud to admit it. However, as the years have gone by, and I started to realize how gross my nails really did look, I started to make a conscious effort to stop the biting. One thing I've noticed is that nail polish helps me a lot to prevent the nail biting from starting. Therefore, upon this realization, I started wearing nail polish all the time to make sure I don't get the urge, and fall back into that nasty habit. So, because of this helpful beauty product, I now have healthy, presentable nails, and a fabulous, easily changeable accessory. There are so many shades of nail polish, it's astounding!

One of my favorite brands is Essie. They make a great product, in beautiful colors, and with fun names. The quality is so much nicer than most drug store brands. Up until only a few years ago you could only purchase Essie nail products at specialty beauty supply stores. Fortunately, the line is now being carried by drug stores, which makes it much more accessible to us polish lovers!

Yesterday my sister Annette and I went to CVS. The first sight upon entry was the Essie display. I was like a fly to the light and a kid in a candy store. I already have quite a bit of nail polish, a lot of which is Essie, but they come out with new colors almost every season, and there were soooo.. many I don't have! I picked out three colors that I absolutely fell in love with. So pretty. I thought they'd be a pretty Valentine's Day / February color combo.

Then as I turned the corner, there was the OPI nail polish display. OPI is my, hands down, favorite! I think they make the best nail polish I've ever tried. Their polish lasts so much longer than others, and I'm not talking about gel polish, I'm talking about the standard stuff. It doesn't chip, dry out your nails, or yellow your nails. For me those three key elements are most important when selecting a nail polish. I also think that the consistency of the formula is very important. A nail polish cannot be too thin of a liquid, or it will be streaky, nor can it be too thick, or it will bubble. OPI is usually fairly consistent with their product in my opinion. I always do one base coat of a nail fortifier, two coats of the color (unless I am doing a special manicure, like a french, or some type of design), and a clear top coat. I've never had to do more than these with OPI, and the manicure always looks great.

I selected two polishes from OPI (One was actually the Nicole by OPI) that are very similar to the Essie color scheme combo I had selected earlier. I ended up purchasing these two and putting back the Essies. The reason being that I like OPI a bit more than Essie (my Essie polish tends to chip which drives me nuts) and although I would have liked to purchase all 5 polishes, I couldn't validate spending $45+ on nail polish at that moment. Each Essie polish is $8.50+ and the OPI is $9.50+, so I just stuck with my favorite, the Essie and OPI greys were almost identical. BUT I may have to go back and cave into getting at least that Essie pink glitter polish! <3

Speaking of OPI and grey nail polish... Have you guys checked out the "Fifty Shades of Grey" OPI Nail collection?!?! Exciting stuff right here... I just purchased the 6-pack mini set from the ULTA website. Very excited for it to come in so I can try them out. I'll let you know my opinion once I try them out. If you're on the fence about purchasing these, I definitely suggest the mini-pack. At a $21.95 price point, you get all 6 shades in a smaller version versus the $9.50+ each normal size version, which does not come in a set. Here's the mini-pack and the picture is linked to take you to the ULTA web site.
